Modifiable Risk Factors and Performance Measures

The Virginia Infection Prevention Training Center’s advanced module, Modifiable Risk Factors and Performance Measures, examines the history of infection prevention performance measures and highlights the role of modifiable risk factors in improving outcomes. Participants will explore strategies to select, track, and update process measures, as well as techniques for communicating data effectively to stakeholders and applying findings to real-world infection prevention challenges.

Target Audience

Target audience for this course are healthcare professionals who are leading infection prevention activities in their facilities. These are infection prevention professionals with extensive knowledge of infection prevention and control concepts and considerable practice or fieldwork experience with infection prevention and control.

Overall Learning Objectives

• Discuss the history of infection prevention performance measures
• Describe modifiable risk factors and why they are important in healthcare
• Describe strategies for selecting, measuring, and updating modifiable risk factors
• Discuss the literature supporting key process measures
• Discuss best practices for communicating process measure data to key stakeholders
• Apply these strategies to an infection prevention problem
