Environment of Care: Implementing and Monitoring an EOC Plan

Course Overview 

The Virginia Infection Prevention Training Center’s intermediate module, Environment of Care: Implementing and Monitoring an EOC Plan, focuses on how infection preventionists can lead and sustain effective environmental safety practices. Participants will explore how to conduct area tracers, evaluate compliance, relate findings to standards, and structure meaningful environment of care rounds. Emphasis is placed on using data to drive change and communicate results clearly to stakeholders.

Target Audience

Target audience for this course are healthcare professionals who are or will be directly involved in infection prevention activities in their facilities. These are infection prevention professionals who have participated in and gained considerable knowledge through specialized infection and control training and have minimal to moderate practice or fieldwork experience with infection prevention and control concepts.

• Define infection prevention environmental safety standards 
• Describe how to conduct environmental infection prevention area tracers in the healthcare environment
• Relate appropriate standards to breaches in environmental standards 
• Apply strategies to collect meaningful data and disseminate summaries of actions and results
• Apply strategies to implement environment of care rounds within your setting
