Deploying a Champions of Healthcare Infection Prevention (CHIP) Program

The Virginia Infection Prevention Training Center’s intermediate module, Deploying a Champions of Healthcare Infection Prevention (CHIP) Program, explores the full lifecycle of implementing a CHIP team—from initial planning to measuring success. This course provides step-by-step guidance for assembling and supporting champions, developing recruitment strategies, identifying and overcoming barriers to participation, and incorporating ongoing feedback. Real-world examples help participants tailor approaches to their facility’s needs. This module is the second in a series for implementing a CHIP program. 

Target Audience

Target audience for this course are healthcare professionals who are or will be directly involved in infection prevention activities in their facilities. These are infection prevention professionals who have participated in and gained considerable knowledge through specialized infection and control training and who have minimal to moderate practice or fieldwork experience with infection prevention and control concepts. 

Overall Learning Objectives

• Review the structure of a CHIP team
• Develop recruitment strategies to build a CHIP team
• Anticipate barriers to participation in infection prevention and identify potential solutions
• Recognize opportunities to demonstrate and promote the positive impacts of a CHIP program
• Formulate a plan for receiving and incorporating feedback into a CHIP program
